I remember in Sophomore Year, I had to rely on my friends to take me to the soccer games to perform in the Winter Drumline. I would stay after school every game just so when they came to pick up equipment, they could take me as well. It made me feel inferior and mad that I didn't have any other way, staying until 5:30pm every week just to play and then later having to find someone else to take me home. At the same time, I was thankful that they would take me every time with no complaint, being a reason why I do the same for others now that I have a car and can drive. I understand the struggle and don't want anyone to not participate just because they don't have a ride there or back. Today, we continued reading The Color Purple by Alice Walker. We learned about Sofia's conditions in prison, her friends/family finding a way to get her out, and the aftermath of her being free. I enjoyed the different perspectives we saw, as well as the social hierarchy in place at the time the book takes place. Afterwards, we took a group pop quiz to make sure we were paying attention during the presentation/reading. Today, I feel tired. I have a lot on my mind and need to talk to someone about it instead of trying to sleep it off.
An object that holds a lot of value to me is my Legos. They were gifted or bought during significant points in my life, building them after each event. They remind me of the good times/memories every time I look at them, thinking of each block as building the memory, or the Lego set in this case. Today, we continued our reading of The Color Purple by Alice Walker. We read 3 chapters today, learning about Sofia's return to the story and her eventual incarceration due to her beliefs and nature. It was interesting to see the reminder of the consequences the characters can face, bringing down such a strong-willed character like Sofia. It also showed us why Celie and Squeak's, Harpo's girlfriend, obedience is beneficial to them in some way. Today, I feel tired. I pulled an all-nighter and still have to go to a practice and then teach 8th graders and drop people off afterwards. I know the sleep is going to be good later tonight.
